Radon Tests
Radon is an invisible and odorless
cancer-causing radioactive gas, which occurs naturally from decaying
uranium beneath the earth’s surface. Radon enters your home through
dirt floors, cracks in the foundation, and openings from sump pump
holes and drains. It can also enter through your water supply.
Though you cannot see, smell or taste radon, it can be present and
may cause serious health problems.
The Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) suggests that radon levels should be below
4pCi/L (measured in picocuries per liter). People should test
because throughout the U.S., it is estimated that 1 in 15 homes has
elevated radon gas levels over 4pCi/L. Your neighbor may have
elevated radon levels while you may not. The only way to know is to
conduct a radon test on an annual basis.
Continuous
inhalation of radon gas can damage lung tissue leading to the onset
of lung cancer. Similar to other agents that can cause lung cancer,
death may ultimately result. It has been estimated that radon gas is
the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, while smokers who
live in a home with elevated radon levels can significantly increase
their chances of developing lung cancer.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY, TEST ANNUALLY FOR RADON!!
