Tips on Fans
  • Whole house fans are designed to aid in cooling your home by pulling cool air through the house and exhausting warm air through the attic. They are most effective when the temperature of the air outside is lower than the temperature of the air inside.

  • Attic vent fans create additional circulation in the attic and propel the hot air outside through a system of attic vents. During warm weather, an attic will hold heat and become quite warm. This build up of heat may flow down into the living space causing your air conditioner to work harder to maintain your "comfort" setpoint or thermostat setting.. This increases your energy use and costs you money. If you have installed an attic vent fan, be sure to keep it well maintained and follow the manufacturer’s use and care instructions carefully.

  • Using a ceiling fan or portable fan along with your room air conditioner will help circulate the cooled air.

  • Use kitchen and bath exhaust fans sparingly. An exhaust fan can remove the equivalent of a whole house full of warmed or cooled air in just one hour!
