More Tips on Buying a New Water Heaters
- Look at capacity, efficiency, and cost to operate before you purchase your water heater. Read the Energy Guide label and look for the Energy Star logo.
- Plan ahead! Don’t wait until your water heater fails to decide what you need. Doing a little "homework" now will ensure that you get what you want.
- Estimate your family’s peak hour demand usage and then look for a unit that has a first-hour rating (FHR) in that range.
- A larger tank does not mean a higher first hour recovery.
- Gas fired water heaters have higher FHR ratings than electric water heaters of the same storage capacity. You may be able to meet your needs with a smaller gas unit.
