Tips on Programmable Thermostats
  • Some programmable thermostats have a vacation mode which provides a one-button method for switching from normal comfort to vacation savings while your house sits empty.

  • Some feature an automatic change over from heating to cooling on days when both heating and cooling are necessary.

  • Furnaces and air conditioners put out the same amount of heated or cooled air no matter how high or low the thermostat is set - the variable is how long they stay on to reach the temperature you selected.

  • Be sure to ask how precise the thermostat is. Buying one with the Energy Star label will assure you that it must keep your house within 2 degrees of the setpoint.

  • Not every thermostat works with every heating/cooling system. It may be best to consult a heating specialist for advice before purchasing a programmable thermostat.
